Hire advice / Transport

Transport · Reviewed 29 October 2026

Collect it yourself or arrange delivery?

A machine that fits the job still needs to get to the job. Compare transport, access and time before reserving it.

Confirm transport dimensions and weight

Ask for the actual machine dimensions, weight and approved transport method. A small photograph does not tell you whether equipment fits your car or can be lifted safely. Confirm any ramps, trailer or loading assistance with the supplier.

Describe the entire access route

Measure gate widths, steps and narrow turns. Tell the supplier about soft ground, slopes, parking restrictions and where equipment must be delivered. Avoid assuming kerbside delivery includes moving a machine to the work area.

Budget for both journeys

Collection includes getting to the branch, loading, returning home, unloading and a second trip for return. Delivery quotes may have separate collection, distance or access charges. Check the agreed handover arrangements.

Decide using the complete job

Delivery may cost more but reduce time and handling. Self-collection may be sensible for a genuinely portable machine with appropriate transport. If transport cannot be confirmed, do not reserve the machine on the assumption it will work out.

General planning information. Actual charges, responsibilities and equipment suitability depend on the supplier, contract and task.
